My name is Elessa Lara and my position at Texas City High School is an instructional aide for the special education department. I accompanied the students chosen to participate in the Mounting Horizons program for the 2011-2012 school year. The students consisted mostly of seniors, they enjoyed learning various subjects and tasks such as: money management, how to properly write a resume, interviewing tips, usage of the connect bus, cooking, etc. Because our special education class is focused on work based instruction, the most valuable information the students acquired from the program were the interviewing skills and the usage of the connect bus. The students enjoyed the staff and formed relationships with each coordinator. Our Texas City High School students and Special Education Department appreciate the warm welcoming and dedication of the Mounting Horizons staff to help our students become employed and independent. Texas City High School, myself and the students are excited to continue obtaining the positive results from the program next year.
